While there are no official stock market holidays scheduled in September, the Indian stock exchanges will still remain closed for eight days due to regular weekend breaks. Since both the BSE and NSE are closed on Saturdays and Sundays and September 2025 includes four full weekends, this results in eight non-trading days. specifically on September 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28. On Thursday, October 2, the markets will be shut in observance of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. Later in the month, the markets will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21, for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, and on Wednesday, October 22, for Balipratipada. In November, the market will be closed on Wednesday, November 5, to mark Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev. Finally, the stock exchanges will be closed on Thursday, December 25, for Christmas.
Market Performance So Far in 2025
The Indian stock market has exhibited mixed results this year. Despite the broader market turning negative for the year, key equity indices have still delivered modest gains for investors. The Nifty 50 index has risen by nearly 3%, while the Sensex has shown a gain of almost 2%. Monthly performances have been relatively balanced, with both indices posting gains in four months and losses in four months of 2025.
In particular, the Sensex recorded a decline of 1.7% in August, following a nearly 3% fall in July. However, from March through June, the Sensex enjoyed a strong rally, gaining approximately 14%. January and February were relatively weak months, contributing to the overall cautious sentiment.
