According to national transporters records, Indian Railways have now set-up more than 2,2 lakh bio-toilettes covering approximately 61.500 passengers with coaches at only 57 bio-toilets in 31 coaches in January 2011. Indian Railways is taking the cleanliness movement with the bio-toilets in the trains. Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways have taken many measures toward Swachh Bharat in recent years. Based on this initiative, Indian Railways built bio-toilets on its passenger carriers in an effort to eliminate the direct dumping of human waste produced in coaches on rail tracks.

Such bathroom forms allow rapid onboard sanitation and human waste collection from the trains. As per the national transporter, it is stated that with a minimum of only 57 bio-toilets in 31 coaches in January 2011, more than 2,2 lakh bio-toilets have now been built by Indian Railways, comprising almost 61,500 passenger coaches. A positive impact of bio-toilets is that travellers do not have to use smelly toilets in on their travel. Some of the most important features of biological toilets and how hygiene toilets are maintained in Indian Railways:
Wireless Auto Clog Detection System: It helps to automatically detect chocking in toilets. The system allows chocking to be rectified in real-time by dedicated on-board cleaning staff. The sensors mounted in this device detect chocking and warn employees on-board immediately via SMS.

Trolley-mounted mobile sewage evacuation machine: This is used by train coaches to disposal the bio-toilet waste. In the incident of choking the unit evacuates the first chamber of the bio-digester tank and also improves the effectiveness of the bio-toilet system. In addition, no physical contact is needed between staff with excrement matter.
Bio Vaccum- Human waste is then dumped into a biodegradable tank with this method. The machine eliminates both water consumption and bad stench, thereby enhancing passenger's comfort. Bio-vacuum is commonly used in aircraft, which will be now also used by the Indian Railways.

Dustbin and Steam trap: In all bio-toilettes, stainless steel dustbins are given for the disposal of trash, napkins, cans, etc. While the steam trap detects the difference between steam and fluid flowing out of the tube, the mechanical doors do not fill the bio tank. Therefore, it extracts both condensate and non-condensate gas despite wasting live steam.
