The budget for 2022 is scheduled to happen tomorrow February 1, 2022. High-Speed Trains
This year's budget allocation for Indian Railways is projected to witness a significant rise due to pandemic caused trouble to the railway. The national transporter is poised to get a huge boost in the coming years, from the deployment of more semi-high-speed trains to the electrification of the rail network.
In 2021, on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a huge announcement in the expansion of Indian Railways. PM announced that around I75 new semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, will be unveiled, connecting every part of India and remote regions. Furthermore, in the budget, a bullet train connecting New Delhi and Varanasi might also be announced by the center. In addition, an extra bullet train between Delhi and Howrah might be announced as the government is also taking the bullet train expansion in focus.
Electrification and Expansion
The government is also moving fast towards the electrification of the railways. In budget 2022, it is expected that the government shall allocate funds towards the electrification of the railways. Besides electrification, there could be an announcement in the doubling of the existing lines and the laying of new lines, which will further help the expansion of the railways in remote areas.
In addition, the national transporter's budget is anticipated to include increased manufacture of LHB coaches, as well as the introduction of environmentally friendly facilities, among other things. The government is keen on modernizing the Indian railways and their network.
Northeastern Region
In the last 7-8 years, the Railways Ministry has made several development efforts that benefited the growth and expansion of the railways in the country. Railway expansion in the Northeastern region is one of them. The Centre government is prioritizing the Northeast area in its budget allocation for the railway network. In a recent development, for the first time since independence, a freight train arrived at Rani Gaidinliu railway station in Manipur's Tamenglong district just before the elections, which marked the government's ambitious plan for the region for the railway network.
