The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) is poised to achieve Rs 1,000 crore in revenue this fiscal year, according to Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Telecom. This announcement was made during the launch of C-DOT's core 5G router. The minister highlighted that this growth underscores C-DOT's technological leadership and commercial significance.

In addition to its projected revenue, C-DOT is expected to receive a government grant of Rs 400 crore. This financial support complements the organisation's earnings from technology agreements. Last year, C-DOT's revenue was Rs 536 crore, excluding a government grant of approximately Rs 500 crore. These figures reflect the organisation's evolution into a self-sustaining innovation hub.
Technological Advancements and National Impact
C-DOT's development of a 5G core router capable of handling up to 25.6 terabits per second showcases its technological prowess. The organisation's work on 4G technology positioned India as the fifth country globally to produce its own 4G network equipment. This achievement highlights C-DOT's role in advancing national telecom security and digital inclusion.
During an interaction with C-DOT scientists and engineers, Pemmasani encouraged them to focus on creating solutions rather than just products. He assured them of full support in facilitating the timely procurement of research materials. This commitment aims to bolster their efforts in developing innovative telecom solutions.
Minister's Personal Journey and Motivation
Pemmasani shared his personal journey into politics, despite his successful business career. He completed his medical education in India at a nominal fee in a government college. "I studied medicine here, I only paid Rs 15,000 for my entire medical school," he stated. His desire to give back to the country motivated him to enter public service.
As India's wealthiest Member of Parliament with a net worth exceeding Rs 5,700 crore, Pemmasani expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by taxpayers' money. "That deep gratitude is what brought me here," he added, emphasising his commitment to serving the nation through his political role.
The minister's engagement with C-DOT reflects a broader vision for leveraging indigenous technology to meet national priorities. By supporting research and development in telecom, Pemmasani aims to strengthen India's position in the global technology landscape while ensuring digital inclusion for all citizens.
