Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), is exploring a joint venture with the Jharkhand government for the second phase of expansion of the Tenughat Thermal Power Station in the state.
State-owned Coal India Limited's (CIL) subsidiary Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) is considering a joint venture with the Jharkhand government for the second phase of expansion of the Tenughat Thermal Power Station in the state.

Current Capacity and Expansion Plans
The Tenughat Thermal Power Station currently has a total installed capacity of 420 MW, comprising two units of 210 MW each. The first unit was commissioned in September 1996, and the second unit followed in September 1997.
Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) plans to set up two additional 660 MW coal-fired supercritical units as part of the extension project Stage II at the Tenughat Thermal Power Station, located in Lalpania, Bokaro district, Jharkhand.
CCL's Involvement
According to an official source, CCL is keen on forming a joint venture with TVNL for this expansion project. The company aims to provide a steady supply of coal to the power plant while the state government would facilitate land acquisition and other necessary arrangements.
Discussions and Modalities
The proposal for the joint venture was recently discussed between CCL officials and the Jharkhand government. Two panels will be formed to work out the details of the partnership, including the percentage of ownership by both parties in the joint venture.
