The union government has stepped up its action against illegal online betting and gambling platforms, blocking around 300 more websites and mobile applications, according to government sources. With this latest crackdown, the total number of such banned digital entities has climbed to nearly 8,400.
Centre Blocks 300 More Illegal Betting, Gambling Platforms; Total Banned Links Near 8,400
The latest round of blocking has covered a wide mix of platforms allegedly involved in unauthorised money gaming activities. These include sports betting websites, online casino portals, platforms offering roulette and slot-style games, live dealer services, betting exchanges that allow person-to-person wagering, as well as satta and matka networks.

Real-money gaming apps offering cards and casino-style formats have also come under the scanner.
Officials indicated that the action was aimed at curbing digital platforms that were operating outside the legal framework and facilitating betting or gambling activities through websites as well as app-based channels.
Government sources said the cumulative number of blocked betting and gambling-linked websites and applications has now reached about 8,400. A substantial portion of these curbs came after the new online gaming law was introduced, showing that enforcement has accelerated significantly over the past year.
Nearly 4,900 Platforms Blocked After New Law
Of the total prohibited entities, around 4,900 were blocked after the new legislation came into effect, underscoring how the law has strengthened the government's ability to act against illegal online money gaming operators.
The stronger enforcement push follows the implementation of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, which was passed by Parliament on August 21, 2025. The law was brought in to protect users from the risks linked to online money gaming while also creating a framework for regulating other permissible forms of online gaming.
Officials have maintained that the objective is not only to curb unlawful betting and gambling activity, but also to ensure that legitimate gaming operations function within a clearly defined regulatory environment.
By blocking thousands of links and applications, authorities are seeking to limit access to platforms that allegedly promote unlawful wagering and expose users to financial risk.
