The oil hub, the Middle East is in chaos with wars hanging on a loop across Israel. Since the Gaza war after the October 7th massacre, Israel has been taking heavy blows from both the South and the North. The situation has escalated further, with Iran and its proxies now threatening to enter the war, leading the Jewish-majority nation into battle from major fronts. Amidst this, countries including India have warned their citizens to refrain from travelling on Iran and Israel soils. They urged their citizens in the conflicted region to reach out for safe passage to their homeland.
A war with Iran and its proxies was something that was predicted, but when and how? were just a few of the questions that needed clarity. Since Israel declared war against the Hamas regime, the ruling party of the Gaza Strip, Iran has stayed in the background with its proxies like Hezbollah launching air missiles in the north. Israel's sophisticated Iron Dome has been combating missiles from both Gaza and Lebanon.

And then there is the mess in the Red Sea created by Yemen-based Houthis, another supposed proxy of Iran. The Houthis have been blocking and capturing goods and services ships that pass through Egypt's Suez Canal.
Until a few weeks ago, Israel and Iran kept their spat limited to airstrikes and verbal warnings. But matters escalated after warplanes bombarded an Iran embassy in the capital city of Syria, Damascus on April 1.
In the latest strike, Iran has reportedly said that it lost seven of its military advisers, from which, three were senior commanders. Earlier, in March, it was reported that in cross-border strikes, Israel killed hundreds of Hezbollah fighters including a couple of senior commanders. This was followed by reports that an Israeli strike took down a senior general of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Razi Moussavi in December last year.
Accordingly, the strike on Iran's embassy in Damascus is seen as the igniting fuel to the fiery row between Israel and Iran. Earlier, this week, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran stated that Israel must be punished and it shall be. This is despite Israel's silence on the strike.
Amidst this, Israel's long-standing ally from the West, the United States has announced full support for the country. While reiterating US commitment to defend Israel, US President Joe Biden has warned Iran to not enter into a war with Israel as they will not succeed. However, Biden expects Iran to attack Israel sooner rather than later.
Travel Advisory Amid Israel-Iran Conflict:
Following this, India's Ministry of External Affairs has issued a travel advisory for its nationalities.
In a statement, the Indian ministry said, "In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indians are advised not to travel to Iran or Israel till further notice." It added, "All those who are currently residing in Iran or Israel are requested to get in touch with Indian Embassies there and register themselves."
Further, the ministry added, "They are also requested to observe utmost precautions about their safety and restrict their movements to the minimum."
The United States has also issued new guidelines related to travelling to Israel and Iran. The US has asked its employees not to travel to large parts of Israel, which is for the first time since Israel declared war against Hamas.
Other Western countries like the UK have asked its citizens to consider leaving both Israel and Palestinian terrorists, while France has asked its diplomats to evacuate Iran and asked its citizens to not travel to Iran and Israel. Germany too has asked its citizens to leave Iran. Canada, Russia, and Australia have also given similar warnings.
Meanwhile, airlines like Dutch KLM have reportedly announced to halt operations in Israel and Iran, and Lufthansa has decided to suspend flying on Iran's airbase.
Other airliners or countries are likely to follow suit as a countdown has begun on when Iran will attack Israel. The Benjamin Netanyahu-led country has announced to respond to Iran with similar force.
At the latest development, it is being reported that Iran has hijacked a vessel and its international crew including some 17 Indians as well. The national security has asked Tehran to release the civilian vessel immediately as it is a violation of international law, as per the reports.
