The prices of petrol and diesel continue to remain steady on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Prices of both the fuel petrol and diesel have been same ever since finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared a cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel. Nirmala Sitharaman declared an excuse duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel earlier this year on May 21.

In Delhi, the price of one litre of petrol is Rs 96.72 per litre while the diesel price is recorded at Rs 89.62 per litre. Meanwhile in Mumbai, the price of one litre of petrol is recorded at Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel price is available at Rs 94.27 per litre.
The prices of petrol and diesel does not remain same in all the states because of implementation of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
Meanwhile, according to latest reports, Mumbai's gas distributor Mahanagar Gas (MGL) has declared a price rise of Rs 6 per kilogram for CNG and by Rs 4 a unit for piped natural gas all across the city. This is the second hike within 31 days and the sixth price hike since April this year. The latest rates have become effective beginning from Wednesday, August 3.
The price revision has come amid surging prices of natural gas at sources both globally as well as for domestically drilled gas. "Due to the significant increase in input gas cost, we have decided to recover the cost. Accordingly, we've increased the retail price of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) to Rs 86 (per kilogram) and domestic PNG (Piped Natural Gas) by Rs 4/SCM (standard cubic meter) to Rs 52.50 in and around Mumbai, effective from this midnight," MGL said in a statement.
