Closing Bell: The Indian stock market recouped losses on Tuesday as positive sentiment prevailed among investors amid hopes of favourable outcome of India-US trade deal ahead of Donald Trump tariff deadline.
Nifty 50 recovered significantly during the stock market closing and ended 0.24% higher at 25,522.5 points. Whereas, BSE Sensex jumped around 270.01 points to end at 83,712.51 points.

The Indian stock market made last-minute recovery as the Sensex and Nifty heavyweight stocks held ground. One of the possible reasons behind the final action in Nifty and Sensex trading session could be attributed to weekly expiry on Sensex. Financial heavyweights supported Dalal Street's smart recovery on Tuesday. Kotak Mahindra Bank, Titan shares remained in focus today after their quarterly update.
What Fueled Stock Market Recovery?
One of the possible reasons behind positive closing of Nifty and Sensex today could be the strengthenening of investors sentiment after United States President Donald Trump's announcement related to India-US Deal.
President Donald Trump on Monday night, announced tariffs on 14 nations. Alongwith this, he also said that the US is close to reaching a trade deal with India. Experts are predicting that India could face relatively lesser tariffs compared to its South Asian counterparts.
Additionally, the final minutes recovery in the Indian stock market today during the closing hours could be attributed to the weekly expiry date on Sensex, according to CNBC TV 18.
The Sensex options contracts expire every week on Tuesday. On the expiry day, options settlements are made at the regular market closing time. There may be some changes in the schedule whenever there is a different schedule.
Top Gainers and Top Losers Of The Day
Kotak Mahindra Bank was among the top gainers on Nifty and Sensex on Tuesday after the company raised investors confidence with its strong June quarterly update. The private lender on Monday reported a strong double-digit growth in deposits and advances for the June quarter of financial year 20250-26.
Kotak Mahindra Bank shares closed 3.4% higher at Rs 2220.05 per share on BSE on Tuesday with a market capitalisation of Rs 4,41,417.05 crore.
Other than Kotak Mahindra Bank, Eternal, NTPC, Asian Paints, Grasim, BEL remained among the top Nifty gainers.
Financial stocks supported the Nifty's recovery on Tuesday. Nifty Financial Services closed 0.68% higher at 27,016.85 points. Other than Kotak Bank, HDFC AMC, PFC, SBI Card, SBIN, and REC Limited were among the top gainers in the themnatic index.
"Strength was seen in Bank Nifty, which outperformed with gains of around 60 basis points, led by private sector banks. IT, realty, and media stocks also contributed positively. On the other hand, weakness persisted in pharma, public sector banking, and FMCG counters. The India VIX, a gauge for market volatility, eased by over 3% to 12.18, indicating a slight cooling in near-term risk perception," said Gaurav Garg, Lemonn Markets Desk.
Titan Group's Titan company emerged as the top loser after the company stock dipped 5% after its Q1FY26 update. The company scrip closed 6.17% lower at Rs 3440.60 per share on BSE. The company revealed that it recorded a 20% growth in the consumer business.
Other than Titan, Dr Reddy's, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Trent, Axis Bank, and Apollo Hospitals, were among the top losers.
What Should Be Investors' Strategy For Tomorrow, July 9?
"The market remains in a zone of elevated uncertainty, both on the global trade front and regulatory landscape. Traders should adopt a buy-on-dips strategy but maintain tight stop losses to manage risk. Fresh long positions can be considered only if Nifty sustains above 25,600, with a watchful eye on sector rotation and global headlines. With the broader market tone turning cautiously optimistic, near-term movements may hinge on the trade pact announcement and clarity on regulatory changes. Volatility may stay elevated, warranting disciplined risk management," explained Garg.
Stock Market Closing Recap
Nearly 1,948 stocks advanced and 2,081 stocks declined during the Tuesday's trading session on BSE. Whereas, 128 stocks touched their 52-week high mark, and around 51 stocks touched their 52-week low mark on BSE. A total of eight stocks touched their upper circuit mark, and nearly six stocks touched their lower circuit mark today. The total market capitalisation of all the BSE-listed companies stood at Rs 4,61,38,452.29 crore by the end of Tuesday's trading session.
