President Donald Trump has issued letters to 14 countries, warning them of increased tariffs if trade deals are not reached by August 1. These letters, shared on Truth Social, caution that retaliatory tariff hikes will lead to even higher US tariffs. The targeted countries have varied responses and key exports to the US.

Myanmar and Laos Face High Tariffs
Myanmar is subject to a 40% tariff on its exports like clothing, leather goods, and seafood. Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for Myanmar's military government, stated that negotiations will follow. Similarly, Laos faces a 40% tariff on items such as shoes with textile uppers, wood furniture, and electronic components.
Cambodia and Thailand's Negotiation Efforts
Cambodia's chief negotiator, Sun Chanthol, noted the reduction of their tariff from 49% to 36%. He urged investors and garment workers not to panic as new negotiations are planned. Thailand also faces a 36% tariff on computer parts, rubber products, and gemstones. Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira mentioned ongoing efforts to negotiate with the US.
Thailand has submitted a proposal to open its market further to American agricultural and industrial products while increasing imports of energy and aircraft.
Bangladesh's Concerns Over Competitiveness
Bangladesh is dealing with a 35% tariff on clothing exports. Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed expressed hopes for better negotiation outcomes. There are worries that these tariffs could make Bangladesh's garments less competitive compared to Vietnam and India.
Responses from Serbia and Indonesia
Serbia faces a 35% tariff on software, IT services, and car tires exported to the US. Meanwhile, Indonesia is subject to a 32% tariff on palm oil, cocoa butter, and semiconductors.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's Export Challenges
Bosnia and Herzegovina are dealing with a 30% tariff on weapons and ammunition exports. South Africa also faces a similar rate on platinum, diamonds, vehicles, and auto parts. President Cyril Ramaphosa's office stated that Trump's tariffs misrepresent their trade relationship but will continue diplomatic efforts for balanced trade.
Japan's Regret Over Tariff Rates
Japan is facing a 25% tariff on autos, auto parts, and electronics. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba described the tariffs as "extremely regrettable" but remains committed to negotiations. He noted that the current rate is lower than previous threats.
Kazakhstan's Export Tariffs
Kazakhstan is subject to a 25% tariff on oil, uranium, ferroalloys, and silver exports to the US. Malaysia also faces a similar rate on electronics and electrical products. The Malaysian government plans talks with the US following a cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
South Korea's Swift Negotiation Plans
South Korea is working quickly to negotiate before the 25% tariff on vehicles, machinery, and electronics takes effect. The Trade Ministry announced plans to accelerate discussions with the US early Tuesday.
Tunisia is also dealing with a 25% tariff on animal fats, clothing, fruit, and nuts exported to the US.
