Kerala saw 300 fresh COVID-19 infections and three deaths due to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the data available Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. Of the 358 COVID-19 infections reported countrywide till 8 am today, 300 were from Kerala, taking the active caseload in the state to 2,341, as per the Ministry website. As of December 21, India has 2669 active cases of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, there are 92 fresh COVID-19 cases and two people have died due to the disease in the last 24 hours.

With the latest three deaths reported in the state, the total number of people who have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Kerala since the outbreak of the disease three years ago reached 72,059.
The number of people who were cured, discharged, or migrated in the last 24 hours after being diagnosed with the infection stood at 211. With that, the total number of cases under this category rose to 68,37,414 till date, according to a PTI report.
In Tamil Nadu, there are 89 active COVID-19 cases, while Maharashtra, Gujarat , and Puducherry has 45, 23, and 22 active cases respectively.
India, on Wednesday, saw 21 cases of the newly identified JN.1 Covid variant. The new COVID variant has sparked fresh health concerns among the public. However, experts have emphasized that the situation is neither surprising nor particularly worrying. According to scientists, there is no need for panic as the existing treatments remain effective against the JN.1 variant.
Nonetheless, adherence to existing precautionary measures is important for the public at this time.
JN.1 Covid variant symptoms:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the symptoms associated with the new COVID variant are usually mild to moderate.
The list of symptoms that one may have with this variant includes cough, cold, throat pain, headache, mild breathlessness, and loose motions.
