The State Bank of India (SBI) has set aside Rs 71 crore for various support services to fight COVID-19's second surge, according to a press statement. The country's largest lender has set aside Rs 30 crore for a makeshift hospital, while Rs 21 crore will be used to fund projects such as the purchase of life-saving healthcare supplies, oxygen supply to hospitals, Covid-care centres, ambulances, safety gear, masks, and food relief initiatives. The bank has set aside Rs 30 crore and is working with NGOs and hospital management to provide medical services including oxygen concentrators for Covid-19 patients on an emergency basis.
On discussion SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara added that "We are trying our best to make a small contribution to society in the fight against the second wave. We are committed to contribute funds, resources and reach out to the citizens of India and also join in the Government's efforts in fighting the virus. I urge everyone to offer their support in any form to the people in need and contribute towards making the country COVID-19 free." He further said that "We have put in place an action plan. We have earmarked Rs 70 crore plus out of which we are giving Rs 21 crore to 17 circles for Covid-19 related initiatives."
