Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, plans to establish mini tool rooms in the advanced manufacturing sector at Odisha government-run polytechnic Jajpur and ITI Barkote, an official announced. The initiative aims to enhance skill development in the region.

The CTTC operates under the Ministry of MSME and offers industry-oriented training programmes. These include CAD/CAM, Tool Design & Manufacturing, Tool & Die Making, Machine Maintenance, and Industrial Automation. These programmes are designed to support small-scale industries.
Odisha Government's Collaboration
On Monday, the Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CTTC. The signing took place in the presence of Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain. This collaboration aims to boost employment through enhanced training and manufacturing facilities.
The tool rooms will be funded by the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC). This funding will help set up state-of-the-art facilities to train youths in advanced technology and precision engineering.
Addressing Skilled Manpower Demand
Officials highlighted that the MSME sector significantly contributes to the manufacturing industry, accounting for nearly 40 percent of total industrial production. However, both MSMEs and large industries face challenges in meeting the growing demand for skilled manpower.
The minister emphasised the importance of training and manufacturing for employment generation. "Training and manufacturing are the key factors of employment. So, the government has decided to set up the tool rooms," he stated.
CTTC's role will involve providing hand-holding support to train youths in Odisha. The objective is to make them industry-ready by equipping them with advanced technological skills.
This initiative is expected to bridge the gap between industry requirements and available skilled manpower. It will also contribute to the overall development of the manufacturing sector in Odisha.
The establishment of these tool rooms marks a significant step towards enhancing technical education and skill development in the state. This move aligns with the broader goal of fostering economic growth through improved industrial capabilities.
The collaboration between CTTC and the Odisha government underscores a commitment to addressing employment challenges through targeted skill development initiatives. This partnership is poised to create new opportunities for youth in the region.
By focusing on advanced manufacturing technologies, this initiative aims to prepare a skilled workforce capable of meeting industry demands. The project reflects a strategic approach to leveraging local resources for sustainable development.
This development is expected to have a positive impact on both small-scale industries and larger industrial enterprises in Odisha. It highlights the importance of continuous skill enhancement in maintaining competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.
The CTTC's expertise in providing specialised training will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of this initiative. The collaboration is set to pave the way for future advancements in technical education and industrial training in Odisha.
Overall, this initiative represents a proactive approach by the Odisha government and CTTC to address critical skill gaps in the manufacturing sector. It aims to create a robust ecosystem for technical education and skill development in the state.
