Delhi airport operator DIAL has requested SpiceJet to settle its outstanding dues promptly, according to sources. Despite this, the airline maintains that there are no immediate payment concerns. DIAL, which manages Indira Gandhi International Airport, has not officially commented on the matter.

SpiceJet has been grappling with financial and legal challenges. Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) placed the budget airline under enhanced surveillance. This measure involves increased spot checks and night surveillance to ensure operational safety.
SpiceJet's Response to Payment Concerns
A SpiceJet spokesperson stated that flights continue to operate normally and that payment obligations to DIAL are being met as per the regular schedule. The spokesperson also clarified that reports of a two-day payment deadline from DIAL are incorrect. "Our communications with DIAL are ongoing and routine, and there are no immediate concerns regarding payments," the spokesperson added.
Details about the exact amount of pending dues remain unclear. However, sources confirmed that DIAL has urged SpiceJet to clear these dues as soon as possible.
Previous Financial Issues
On August 12, Mumbai airport operator MIAL retracted an advisory about potential disruptions in SpiceJet flights issued earlier that day. The airline later announced it had swiftly resolved a minor financial issue in collaboration with MIAL.
Currently, SpiceJet operates with a reduced fleet of around 22 planes due to ongoing financial, legal, and lessor issues. The airline's operational capacity has been significantly impacted by these challenges.
The DGCA's decision on August 29 to place SpiceJet under enhanced surveillance aims to ensure the safety of its operations amid these difficulties. The increased oversight includes more frequent spot checks and night-time monitoring.
Despite these challenges, SpiceJet continues to assert that its operations remain unaffected and that it is meeting its financial obligations on time. The airline's spokesperson emphasised that there are no immediate concerns regarding payments to DIAL.
The situation remains fluid as both DIAL and SpiceJet continue their communications. The aviation industry will be closely monitoring how these developments unfold in the coming days.
