The Delhi Cabinet has approved the extension of the Electric Vehicle policy till June this year. All current incentives and subsidies remain intact, and any vehicles purchased from January 1 onwards will be eligible for the benefits under this extension.
In a significant move towards promoting sustainable transportation, the Delhi Cabinet has approved the extension of the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy until June 30, 2024. This extension ensures that all current incentives and subsidies for electric vehicles remain intact, providing a boost to the adoption of EVs in the capital.

Extension Details
The Delhi EV policy was initially notified on August 7, 2020, for a duration of three years. It was later extended until December 31, 2023. With the latest extension, any vehicles purchased from January 1, 2023, onwards will be eligible for the benefits under this extension. The policy will remain in effect until June 30, 2024, or until the notification of the Delhi EV Policy 2.0, whichever comes earlier.
Stakeholder Feedback
The Delhi government is committed to creating a comprehensive and effective EV policy that addresses the needs of all stakeholders. To this end, comments and suggestions from various stakeholders, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), businesses, government departments, and the general public, are being considered for inclusion in the upcoming Delhi EV Policy 2.0.
Delhi's EV Progress
Since the launch of the Delhi EV policy in August 2020, the city has witnessed remarkable progress in the adoption of electric vehicles. Over 1.80 lakh EVs have been registered in Delhi, primarily consisting of two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The average annual EV penetration has grown from a mere 3% in 2020 to an impressive 12% by December 2023. In December 2023, Delhi achieved a monthly EV penetration of 16%, the highest among all states in India.
Financial Incentives
The Kejriwal government has demonstrated its commitment to promoting EVs by disbursing financial incentives totaling over Rs 179 crores across various e-vehicle segments. Of this amount, Rs 64 crores have been disbursed for two-wheelers, while over Rs 100 crores have been provided for three-wheelers. These incentives have played a crucial role in encouraging the adoption of EVs in Delhi.
The extension of the Delhi EV policy until June 2024 is a testament to the government's unwavering commitment to fostering a sustainable and eco-friendly transport ecosystem in the capital. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi is poised to emerge as a global leader in electric mobility, setting an example for other cities and states to follow.
