International Yoga Day 2025 At Visakhapatnam
This early service coincides with the national celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga, which will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister's participation underscores India's ongoing leadership in promoting yoga globally as a path to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The theme for this year's event is "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," reflecting the core philosophy that human health is intrinsically linked to the planet's health. The message aligns with India's G20 vision of "One Earth, One Family, One Future," reinforcing the importance of sustainability and harmony between people and nature.
Rooted in ancient Indian tradition, yoga comes from the Sanskrit word 'yuj', which means "to unite." It represents the union of mind and body, thought and action, and humanity with nature. Today, yoga is embraced worldwide as a holistic wellness practice, valued for its benefits in improving lifestyle, reducing stress, and promoting mindfulness.
The United Nations General Assembly officially declared 21 June as the International Day of Yoga on 11 December 2014, following India's proposal. The resolution, backed by a record 175 member states, recognised the global appeal and health benefits of yoga. June 21 was selected for its astronomical importance-it's the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolising vitality and alignment with natural cycles.
This year's observance is more than a symbolic celebration. It highlights India's sustained efforts to promote well-being and global health through yoga. The day will also feature the PM Yoga Awards, which honour exceptional contributions in promoting and practising yoga both in India and internationally.
