The Dholera semiconductor plant will incorporate ASML lithographic tools for chip production, as stated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to the Netherlands. This initiative marks a significant step in India's semiconductor industry.
The semiconductor facilities in Dholera will incorporate lithographic tools from the Dutch firm ASML, as stated by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to their Veldhoven site. Vaishnaw's visit aimed to gain insights into ASML's technology, which will be integral to the Dholera fab. An official statement confirmed his presence at ASML's headquarters in the Netherlands.

Tata Group is spearheading a chip manufacturing project in Dholera with an investment of approximately Rs 91,000 crore. The central government has pledged 50 per cent fiscal support on a pari-passu basis, while the state government will contribute 20 per cent. This collaboration highlights the significant backing for India's burgeoning semiconductor industry.
ASML's Role in Semiconductor Manufacturing
ASML is recognised globally as a leader in providing lithographic tools essential for chip production. "Our fab in Dholera will be using the ASML equipment. So, I have come to visit here and understand their technology," Vaishnaw mentioned. Lithography involves printing circuits on wafers and is crucial yet intricate in semiconductor manufacturing.
The minister emphasised that ASML's involvement marks a pivotal moment for India, as many global equipment manufacturers are now considering establishing bases in the country. This interest is driven by India's design capabilities, vast talent pool, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's consistent policies.
India's Growing Semiconductor Industry
India has embarked on developing its semiconductor sector, with lithography being a key component due to its complexity and precision requirements. The expansion of ASML's operations in India, announced last year, aligns with this growth trajectory. The move is expected to bolster India's position in the global semiconductor landscape.
ASML's decision to expand its presence in India underscores the country's potential as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing. This development is anticipated to attract more international players, further enhancing India's technological capabilities and economic prospects.
The collaboration between Tata Group and ASML signifies a strategic step forward for India's semiconductor ambitions. By leveraging advanced lithographic technology, India aims to strengthen its position in the global market and foster innovation within the industry.
