Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has found himself embroiled in legal controversy after a disappointed fan issued a legal notice accusing him and his tour organizers of unfair practices in ticket sales. The fan, Riddhima Kapoor, a law student from Delhi, claims that the process for purchasing tickets for Diljit's upcoming Dil-Luminati India Tour was rigged, leaving her and many other fans without the opportunity to attend the much-anticipated event.
Allegations of Ticket Manipulation
According to a report from Free Press Journal, Riddhima Kapoor alleges that there were manipulations in the ticket sales process for Diljit Dosanjh's India tour, which is set to begin in October 2024. The legal notice claims that despite the official announcement of tickets going on sale at 1 pm on September 12, tickets were actually made available a minute earlier, at 12:59 pm. As a result, many fans, including Riddhima, missed the chance to book tickets as they were sold out within minutes.
In her notice, Riddhima pointed out that she had even obtained an HDFC Credit Card specifically to take advantage of the early-bird offer, but she was still unable to secure a ticket. She expressed her frustration with what she describes as "unfair trade practices," accusing the event organizers of artificially inflating demand and possibly engaging in ticket scalping.

Claims of Consumer Rights Violations
The legal notice, addressed to Diljit Dosanjh, Zomato, HDFC Bank, and Saregama Pvt Ltd, outlines several alleged violations of consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Riddhima's notice claims that the sudden unavailability of tickets points to practices aimed at hoarding and reselling tickets at inflated prices, which she considers an "act of bad faith." The notice further emphasizes that the manipulation of ticket availability and prices constitutes unfair trade practices, as defined by Indian law.
The fan's allegations centre on the suspicion that the organizers may have deliberately released tickets in a way that artificially increased demand, giving rise to ticket scalping. Scalping, the practice of buying tickets in bulk and reselling them at inflated prices, is considered a violation of consumer rights. Riddhima contends that such actions undermine the fair and transparent ticketing process that fans expect from high-profile events like Diljit's Dil-Luminati Tour.
The Dil-Luminati Tour
Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati India Tour is one of the most awaited musical events of the year. The tour, which will span 10 cities, kicks off on October 26, 2024, at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Following the Delhi leg, the tour will continue to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati. Tickets for the Delhi show were released recently, but they sold out within minutes, leaving many fans disappointed.
In Delhi, only two categories of tickets were available: Fan Pit tickets priced at Rs 19,999 and Gold Phase 3 tickets priced at Rs 12,999. Both categories were reportedly sold out almost immediately after being made available, further fueling frustrations over the ticketing process. Many fans, including Riddhima Kapoor, were unable to purchase tickets despite their best efforts, leading to allegations of malpractice.
What Happens Next?
As of now, Diljit Dosanjh, Zomato, HDFC Bank, and Saregama Pvt Ltd have yet to respond to the legal notice. The fan's claims have raised important questions about ticket sales transparency and consumer rights in India. While the legal implications of the notice are yet to unfold, it has certainly brought attention to the ongoing challenges that fans face in securing tickets for high-demand events.
