Indian Air Force has reportedly released some of 10 percent of military airspace for passenger commercial flights and this will mean lower cost as well as lesser time on more than 12 routes due to better utilization of space. Also, there will be savings on fuel and as per initial estimates domestic carriers will be able to save up to Rs. 40000 on a per flight basis.

Earlier the country's finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the centre is working to better utilize the airspace over it which will be beneficial both for the air carriers as well as environment.
In the current landscape only 60% of the airspace is available for passenger flights and rest is for military operations. And hence with more space, available, there shall be a reduction in flying cost by up to Rs. 1000 crore. While from the industry perspective, the gains due to better or more airspace shall be compensated with losses amid Covid 19 breakout, for customers it will mean reduced airfares.
Previously a meeting was held among the various stakeholders such as to make the Indian aviatin sector more efficient and there it was decided to better and effectively use the provided airspace which shall be beneficial both for the flyers as well as enable airlines save cost by working in close coordination with the Department of Military Affairs.
