DoT Receives Upfront Payment Of Rs. 17,876 Cr. For 5G Spectrum Won By Telecom Operators

As per sources cited by the PTI report, the Department of Telecom has been in receipt of an upfront payment to the tune of approximately Rs. 17,876 crore from telcos including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Adani Data Networks and Vodafone Idea. The payment has been made towards the spectrum that these companies won in the latest auction.

Bharti Airtel is reported to pay a sum of Rs. 8312.4 crore i.e. equal to 4 annual installments. Others however have agreed to make the payment in 20 annual installments. Payment of Rjio, Vodafone and Adani amounts to Rs 7,864.78 crore, Rs 1,679.98 crore and Rs 18.94 crore, respectively.

"DoT has received a total payment of around Rs 17,876 crore. Only Bharti Airtel has paid for four annual instalments at one go," Pti cites an official source as saying.

The biggest-ever auction of telecommunication spectrum garnered bids worth Rs. 1.5 trillion. Of it Mukesh Ambani bagged almost half of all the airwaves, sold by making a bid of Rs. 87,946.93 crore bid. Gautam Adani's Data Networks made bids for Rs. 211.86 crore for 400 MHz in a band that is not used for offering public telephony services.
