As per the new TRAI tariff rules, soon DTH and cable operators including the likes of Airtel, Tata Sky, Hathaway will offer as many as 200 channels for a base recharge price of Rs. 130. Currently, these offer only 100 channels and that includes both free to air as well as paid channels. And for every paid channel, consumers have to increase their expenditure. The new tariff rates are to come into effect from March.

And as per the rules, you will be given the option to choose from both the FTA and paid channels in the base pack. And if you want to subscribe to over 200 channels, your DTH operator cannot charge over Rs. 160 in the name of minimum charges. Further, some of the channels are to be provided mandatorily including 24 channels of DD, one Lok Sabha channel and one Rajya Sabha channel. So, in all for a base price of Rs. 130, customers will be provided 226 channels.
Also there shall be a reduction in the pricing of channels offered as bouquet channels. The sum of the a-la-carte rates of the pay channels forming part of a bouquet will not exceed one and a half times the rate of the bouquet of which such pay channels are a part.
The a-la-carte rates of each pay channel, forming part of a bouquet, will not exceed three times the average rate of a pay channel of the bouquet of which such pay channel is a part. Also, those channels that are priced for Rs. 12 or less will form the part of bouquet channels.
Also, those of you have a secondary connection, will also benefit from the latest TRAI ruling as they will not be charged over 40% of the base plan for every additional connection.
