The celebration of Eid ul Fitr is going to depend upon the Shawwal crescent moon sighting in Middle East, Western countries and India. It is expected that the crescent moon will likely appear in the sky tonight on March 19 in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and other Arab countries. If that happens, one can predict the crescent moon sighting for India anytime soon. Eid ul-Fitr which is also known as Meethi Eid is celebrated the next day after the moon sighting. Eid Ul-Fitr Crescent Moon Sighting In Saudi Arabia:

According to Saudi Gazette, the Saudi Supreme Court called on Muslims across the Kingdom to sight the crescent of Shawwal on the evening of Wednesday, 29 Ramadan, to determine whether Eid will fall on Thursday or Friday.
However, the crescent moon did not appear on March 18, which pushes the sighting date to March 19.
Also, the gazette reported that, Riyadh Municipality has completed preparations at designated moon-sighting observatories in Tumair, Shaqra and Al-Hariq ahead of the observation.
The International Astronomy Centre through its X handle, said, "Today, Thursday, March 19, 2026, is the twenty-ninth day of the month of Ramadan in 27 countries, and these countries will soon begin, one after another, to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal."

The countries that would likely sight the moon on March 19 are: Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Comoros, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Guyana, Albania, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan.

The Astronomy Centre's latest update is that for countries like Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, tomorrow, Friday, March 20, 2026, marks the completion of the month of Ramadan, due to the failure to sight the crescent moon this evening, Thursday, March 19, 2026.

If the moon is sighted on March 19, then Eid-Ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 20th for the following countries:

Moon Sighting Impossible In These Regions:
According to the Astronomy centre, sighting of the crescent moon is impossible from the regions located in the red color due to the setting of the moon before sunset and/or due to surface conjunction after sunset.
While reports have said that crescent visibility is likely impossible in eastern countries and difficult in central regions.
How To Sight the Shawwal Crescent Moon?

The crescent moon can only be sighted using the telescope from the areas located in India, Middle East countries, Pakistan, and other west Asia regions. While moon sighting is impossible in countries that are marked in red color.
Meanwhile, in the countries marked under magenta, the sighting of the crescent moon is possible using a telescope from the areas located in the yellow color, and it is possible to see the crescent moon with the naked eye in the case of a clear atmosphere and observation by an experienced observer.
For countries in green codes, you can sight the moon easily through naked eye.

Eid Ul Fitr marks the end of a month-long and dawn-to-dusk fasting period during Ramadan. It is one of the most important Islamic celebrations. Eid Al Fitr is the first day of Shawwal and the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
The day is celebrated with a communal prayer in the early hours of the day, followed by visits to family, friends and relatives, while giving gifts and sharing meals.
