Senior BJP leader Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan (CP Radhakrishnan) has officially been declared as the NDA's candidate for the Vice Presidential election 2025, which is scheduled for September 9th. Currently he is serving as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra, and Radhakrishnan has decades of political experience and a reputation as a consensus builder.

CP Radhakrishnan's Political Journey and Career
Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, CP Radhakrishnan entered public life through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1974 and later joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the organisation that eventually became today's BJP. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the party's most respected leaders in Tamil Nadu.
As per reports, CP Radhakrishnan was twice elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore. He also served as Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2004 to 2007, where he organised a historic 19,000 km Rath Yatra.
He has also held several parliamentary roles, including Chairman of Standing Committees and a member of high-profile enquiries like the Stock Exchange Scam investigation.
Governor Roles Held By CP Radhakrishnan
CP Radhakrishnan is known for cordial relations across party lines and a non-controversial tenure as governor.
He was the Governor of Jharkhand from Feb 2023 to Jul 2024. He has also been an additional charge as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry (Mar-Jul 2024).
Most recently he has been serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 31, 2024.

Radhakrishnan has been consistently praised for his statesmanship and consensus-building across political parties. Apart from that, he has also given decades of his service to BJP and leadership in the state.

As per his 2019 Lok Sabha election affidavit, CP Radhakrishnan's net worth stood at Rs. 67.11 crore (around $8 million). This included movable assets worth Rs. 7.31 crore (cash, bank deposits, shares, insurance, and jewellery). Immovable assets worth Rs. 59.6 crore (agricultural and non-agricultural land, commercial buildings, residential property). Liabilities of around Rs. 2.37 crore. Recent estimates in 2025 note his net worth in the range of Rs. 55-65 crore ($6.7-8 million), mainly from business, landholdings, and real estate properties. Interestingly, he did not own a car, as per his affidavit.
