If you have recently received an SMS claiming that your India Post package has arrived at the warehouse and that you need to update your address within 24 or 48 hours to avoid the parcel being returned, beware, as this message is completely fake.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team on its Twitter handle has officially clarified that India Post never sends such messages asking users to update personal details or click on suspicious links. Cybercriminals are using fake links like indiapost-gov-in.one/index to trick users into revealing sensitive information such as addresses, bank details, and OTPs.
India Post Scam Alert: What the Fake SMS Looks Like
The fraudulent SMS usually reads like this: "Your package has arrived at the warehouse, and we attempted delivery twice but were unable due to incomplete address information. Please update your address details within 48 hours; otherwise, your package will be returned. Update your address using the link..."
The message ends with a fake website link that closely resembles the official India Post domain. However, these fake links are designed to steal personal and financial data from unsuspecting users.
What India Post and PIB Have Said?
According to PIB Fact Check, India Post does not send such SMS or emails asking for address confirmation, payments, or personal data through links.
"Beware of fake links! India Post never sends messages asking customers to update address details for deliveries," PIB said in a post.
The department has urged citizens to ignore and delete such messages immediately and to never click on unknown links claiming to be from government departments.
Always double-check URLs, avoid clicking unknown links, and spread awareness among family and friends. Remember, India Post never asks you to update your address through a link.
How to Stay Safe from Fake Delivery Scams
Always check the sender's official ID as genuine India. Post messages come from verified domains or official SMS handles.
Avoid clicking on URLs that look similar to government websites but have slight variations.
Never share personal or banking details, as India Post never asks for such details via SMS or email.
Always report such suspicious messages to the cybercrime department.
For genuine updates about parcels or postal services, visit only the official website: www.indiapost.gov.in or contact your nearest post office directly.
