The Indian Highways Management Company has extended the deadline for FASTag KYC compliance by one month, offering relief to users with incomplete KYC. The move aims to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and promote seamless movement at toll plazas.
The Indian Highways Management Company (IHMC), a subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has announced a one-month extension to the deadline for FASTag KYC compliance. The previous deadline was set for January 31, 2024, after which FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC were to be deactivated by banks. However, considering the low number of multiple FASTags closed so far (only 7 lakh out of 1.27 crore), the IHMC has decided to extend the deadline to encourage more users to complete the KYC process.

Promoting One Vehicle, One FASTag Initiative
The IHMC has emphasized the importance of the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative, which aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensuring seamless movement at toll plazas.
Encouraging FASTag Users to Complete KYC
The IHMC is also urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process for their latest FASTag by updating their KYC details as per the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This process is crucial for ensuring the security and transparency of the electronic toll collection system.
Revolutionizing Electronic Toll Collection in India
FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in India, with a penetration rate of around 98% and over 8 crore users. It employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to the FASTag or directly to the toll owner. This system has significantly reduced traffic congestion and waiting time at toll plazas, enhancing the overall travel experience for commuters.
The extension of the FASTag KYC compliance deadline by one month is a welcome move that will provide more time for users to complete the necessary formalities. The IHMC's focus on promoting the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative and encouraging KYC compliance will further strengthen the electronic toll collection system in India, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience for millions of commuters.
