"The FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000 will be effective from 15th August 2025. Valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips-whichever comes first-this pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans," noted Gadkari.
FASTag Annual Pass: How To Activate And Use?
The FASTag Annual Pass can be activated via a dedicated link for activation and renewal. The link is not active yet, but will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH, stated Gadkari.
FASTag Annual Pass Benefits
New FASTag annual pass will help in reducing waiting times, traffic congestion. The policy will also minimise disputes at toll plazas. The new initiative would address the long-standing concerns related to toll plazas located within a range of 60 km. It will also simplify toll payments through a single affordable transaction. The central government's FASTag update will help in delivering a faster and smoother travel experience for crores of private vehicle owners.
The proposed policy sets out two payment models for highway usage. The first option is the Annual Pass, requiring a flat payment of Rs 3,000 each year, granting users unlimited access to toll roads. The second is a distance-based model, under which users would pay a fixed rate of Rs 50 per 100 kilometres which is an ideal choice for occasional travellers who do not use highways frequently.
What Is FASTag?
It is a device which utilises Radio Frequency Identification (RFIC) technology for making toll payments while the vehicle is in motion. The device is fixated on the windscreen of the vehicle, and appears similar to a sticker. Whenever a vehicle reaches closer to a toll, the fixed FASTag (RFID Tag) lets vehicle owner to make payment directly from the account linked to FASTag. According to the Indian government, FASTag is operational in more than 700 toll plazas, including all national highways (NHs) and over 100 state highway toll plazas in India.
FASTag has been made mandatory for all four-wheelers and above from 1 January 2021. Personal vehicles without FASTag would require paying double of toll tax.
