Amitabh Kant, former Chief of NITI Aayog and India's G20 Sherpa, has stepped down from his position. On June 16, he shared on social media that after 45 years in government service, he is ready to explore new opportunities. "My New Journey: After 45 years of dedicated government service, I have made the decision to embrace new opportunities and move forward in life," he posted.

Expressing gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Kant thanked the Prime Minister for accepting his resignation and for allowing him to contribute to India's development. He acknowledged the support of colleagues and friends throughout his career. "I am grateful to all my colleagues, peers and friends for their patience, understanding, and support," he wrote.

Amitabh Kant's Reflections on India's G20 Presidency
On LinkedIn, Kant reflected on leading India's G20 Presidency in 2023. He described it as a career milestone where they achieved consensus on the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration despite global challenges. The presidency was noted for being people-centric and inclusive, enhancing cooperative federalism and celebrating local culture.
Kant highlighted the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 as a testament to India's commitment to global equity. This move was seen as fulfilling India's promise to amplify the voice of the Global South within international forums.
Amitabh Kant's Tenure at NITI Aayog
During his tenure as CEO of NITI Aayog, Kant led transformative programs like the Aspirational Districts Programme. This initiative improved lives in 115 underdeveloped districts across India. His leadership also laid foundations for digital public infrastructure and policy reforms across various sectors.
Kant's efforts spanned from manufacturing through PLI schemes to innovation via the Atal Innovation Mission. He also advanced sustainability with initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Mission and Advanced Chemistry Cells, positioning India as a leader in innovation and climate action.
