Foxconn Chairman Young Liu highlighted the significant contributions of women, particularly married women, to the company's workforce in India. Speaking at the inauguration of a women-only residential complex, he emphasised that Foxconn hires employees regardless of gender. Liu stated, "Foxconn hires regardless of gender, but women do make up a big part of our workforce here. I’d emphasise that married women greatly contribute to the efforts of what we are doing here."

Women Workforce and Allegations
Recently, Foxconn faced allegations of discrimination against hiring married women in India. A report suggested that the company was reluctant to employ married women. However, Foxconn denied these claims, stating that 25 per cent of its new hires were married women. The company also mentioned that its Tamil Nadu plant had about 70 per cent women and 30 per cent men, making it the largest factory for women's employment in India.
Residential Complex and Sustainability
The newly inaugurated residential complex is designed to provide peace of mind for employees living away from home and reduce their commute time. Liu noted, "This residential complex is now an important part of Foxconn in Tamil Nadu. It joins our commitment to Sustainability in India." He added that Foxconn is implementing zero liquid discharge technology, energy-saving equipment, and rain harvesting in India as part of its sustainability efforts.
The complex was built by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) and inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. It will accommodate over 18,000 women employees on a room-sharing basis. The project spans 20 acres and cost approximately Rs 706 crore.
Commitment to Sustainability
Liu stressed that sustainability involves more than just cleaner infrastructure; it includes fostering a community. He said, "Sustainability is not only about cleaner and greener infrastructure but it is about growing a community." He also highlighted that opportunities for women in India are closely linked with their health and safety at work.
Foxconn's commitment to sustainability extends across Asia, the Americas, and Europe. The company is achieving Zero Waste To Landfill validation globally and aims to implement similar practices in India.
The chairman's remarks underscore Foxconn's dedication to creating a supportive environment for its female workforce while advancing sustainable practices in its operations.
