On August 8, 2021, state-run oil marketing corporations (OMCs) held petroleum products prices unchanged across the country for the twenty-second day in a row. The price of petrol stayed steady on Sunday, although it is still at an all-time high.
Oil marketing organizations such as Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, and Hindustan Petroleum modify the prices of petrol and diesel. Every day at 6 a.m., the new pricing go into effect. Because of the many value-added taxes, local and freight charges that vary based on the location, fuel prices fluctuate between states and localities.

The price of petrol and diesel varies by state due to value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. According to statistics, Rajasthan has the highest VAT rate in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
