Fuel prices in the country vary from state to state due to local taxation (VAT) and freight charges, as well as an excise duty levied by the central government on fuels. Since March 22, when petrol and diesel prices increased by Rs 10 per litre across 14 revisions, fuel costs have remained steady for the past eight days. However, crude oil prices are still volatile, with WTI Crude last seen dealing at $103 per barrel and Brent Crude last seen dealing at $107 per barrel, suggesting that domestic fuel costs may continue to remain high. Against the backdrop of Covid and geopolitical worries, lesser oil output from Russia will continue to maintain oil prices on the higher side.
