Home-grown mapping company Genesys International has signed a pact with Survey of India to leverage its resources for building digital twins of major towns and cities in the country. This collaboration will give Genesys International access to technological and data resources that Survey of India has developed since its establishment in 1767.
In a significant move, home-grown mapping company Genesys International has joined forces with the Survey of India (SoI) to leverage the latter's resources for building digital twins of major towns and cities across India. This partnership will provide Genesys International with access to the technological and data resources that SoI has developed since its establishment in 1767.
Survey of India Opens Collaboration Opportunities

Surveyor General of India Hitesh Kumar Makwana highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it marks the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the department has signed with a private company for the development of geospatial content. He called upon other industry players to collaborate with SoI to leverage the department's vast resources.
In line with the National Geospatial Policy 2022, SoI has initiated collaboration with the industry, starting with Genesys International, to deliver geospatial content that will be created with reference to the National Geodetic Framework. Makwana expressed SoI's willingness to collaborate with industry partners to utilize modern surveying techniques and leverage the expertise of the Indian private sector.
Genesys International's Expertise in 3D Mapping
Genesys has developed its own technology for creating three-dimensional (3D) versions of maps that can display buildings along with a 2D layer of the map. The 3D Digital Twin aimed to be created through this collaboration will be utilized by government departments for various new initiatives.
Makwana emphasized the potential of integrating SoI's CORS technology with the surveying expertise of the private sector to enhance the usability and reliability of geospatial data, thereby unlocking new possibilities for India's development. He expressed optimism about the future possibilities that this SoI-Industry collaboration holds, particularly in meeting the needs of the larger public.
Collaboration Benefits for Genesys International
Sajid Malik, Chairman and Managing Director of Genesys International, highlighted the advantages of collaborating with SoI, stating that it will assist the company in saving as well as leveraging SoI's high-precision data.
Malik elaborated on the company's plans to utilize the data to develop digital twins of cities in India, partnering with various government departments such as urban town planners and telecom companies. The Digital Twin map of cities will empower these departments in planning and taking action for their business.
Genesys International has already created a navigational 2D map of the entire country and 3D maps of around 10 cities. The company has also developed a live view for Google and intends to partner with other companies that use maps to provide services to end customers.
Malik expressed confidence that the collaboration with SoI will enable Genesys to obtain precise coordinates of city, town, and state boundaries, further enhancing the accuracy and reliability of its digital twin maps.
The collaboration between Genesys International and the Survey of India marks a significant step forward in the development of digital twins of Indian cities. Leveraging SoI's vast resources and expertise, Genesys International aims to create highly precise and informative digital twins that will support various government initiatives and empower businesses in planning and decision-making. This partnership holds immense potential for advancing India's geospatial capabilities and driving innovation in the mapping industry.
