During the India AI Summit, Goa is positioning itself as a hub for deep-tech and semiconductor investments, supported by the Centre's ambitious AI Mission.
Goa is positioning itself as a key player in artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors, leveraging the India AI Mission. This initiative was unveiled alongside a significant industry summit in New Delhi. The Union government is hosting the India-AI Impact Summit, attracting global CEOs, policymakers, and industry leaders. The five-day event aims to bolster India's AI ecosystem with a Rs 1,000 crore investment.

The AI Mission is seen as a major announcement for both India and the world. Goa's Information Technology Minister, Rohan Khaunte, highlighted the country's leadership in emerging technologies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The mission, along with a Union Budget allocation exceeding Rs 21,600 crore for IT and electronics, underscores India's commitment to AI and semiconductors.
Goa's Strategic Focus on AI
For Goa, where tourism and IT are economic pillars, the AI initiative presents a notable opportunity. With a population of about 1.5 million, Goa is poised to become a hub for research and innovation. The state is working towards a Goa AI Mission by 2027, aiming to unite industry, academia, and government to shape policy and build capacity.
Khaunte emphasised the importance of developing talent through skilling, reskilling, and upskilling to meet industry demands. "Every industry wants talent. If we build that talent pool, investments will follow," he stated. Goa aims to attract AI and deep-tech start-ups along with semiconductor-linked companies.
Investment Opportunities in Goa
The coastal state already hosts an electronic manufacturing cluster with anchor units. New verticals could be developed to generate employment and attract investment. State IT officials are meeting potential investors at the Delhi summit. Khaunte noted that Goa must optimise its limited land by focusing on high-value investments.
"For a small state like Goa, revenue per square metre and employment per square metre are important metrics," Khaunte observed. He addressed concerns that Goa's tourism identity might deter tech investments by highlighting its quality of life and connectivity as appealing factors for knowledge-based industries.
Quality of Life as an Attraction
"Goa is not just a tourism destination. We are steadily becoming a knowledge hub," Khaunte remarked. Post-COVID, people value work-life balance more than ever. For professionals in AI and creative fields, Goa offers a pollution-free environment and good quality of life.
The state government is enhancing e-governance by launching an AI-powered chatbot for public services soon. This move signals Goa's intent to integrate artificial intelligence into governance effectively.
