A stampede at a religious gathering at the Shri Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgao, Goa, claimed at least six lives and left several injured during the early hours of Saturday, May 3. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the accident site early morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the accident and said that the victims are being assisted by the local administration.
The stampede broke out during a temple festival in North Goa in the wee hours of the day, reported news agency PTI citing a police official on Saturday.

Goa Stampede News: Top 10 Updates
-Thousands of devotees from Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka had gathered at the temple for a festival. A stampede broke out at the temple durig the early hours of Saturday. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
-At least thirty people were injured due to Goa stampede, out of them eight are in critical condition and two others were referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, said State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. The injured people are undergoing treatment at the district hospitals, including ten people who sustained minor injuries.
-Two women were among the six people who were brought dead at the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa.
-Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the loss of lives due to tragic incident. "Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede in Shirgao, Goa. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected," read a post by PMO on X.
-Goa CM Pramod Sawant reached the accident site where the incident occured early on Saturday leaving six people dead and several others injured.
-"The unfortunate stampede incident took place today at around 4-5 AM. This is the first time a stampede incident has taken place in Goa. I have reached the spot right now. I met the injured at different hospitals. Six people died in the incident. I have asked the State administration to conduct an inquiry into the incident... PM Modi called me and enquired about the incident," CM Pramod Sawant told ANI.
-After receiving information about the accident, five ambulances were dispatched to the site immediately after the incident, three more reached the spot from North Goa district hospital, according to Rane.
-"We coordinated with the 108 ambulance service, ensuring that five ambulances were dispatched to the site immediately after the incident, while three more are stationed at the North Goa district hospital," PTI quoted Ranes.
-Additionally, doctors were informed in advance to prepare extra beds, ventilators and other facilities for the injured. According to the minister, a dedicated ICU with ventilators was set up to provide consolidated care. "All necessary arrangements have been made, and we are closely monitoring each patient," he said. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also visited the injured at the North Goa district hospital.
-The incident occurred during the celebration of famous Lairai Zatra festival, which started from Friday. Describing the possible cause of Goa stampede, Maem MLA Premendra Shet told ANI, "Around 3 am, at a sloppy area some of the devotees fell on top of the others. A stampede situation occurred...6 people died in the incident...bodies of 4 have been kept at the district hospital in Mapusa, 2 bodies are at the Community Health Centre."
