Google.org has pledged Rs 85 crore to Wadhwani AI to integrate adaptive learning technologies into government platforms, aiming to benefit millions of students and educators by 2027. This initiative seeks to enhance educational outcomes and streamline administrative tasks.
Google.org has committed Rs 85 crore, approximately USD 10 million, to Wadhwani AI. This grant aims to integrate adaptive learning technologies into government platforms like SWAYAM. The initiative is expected to benefit 75 million students and 1.8 million educators by 2027. This funding is part of Google's broader efforts in India to bridge the gap between education and technology.

Over the next three years, Wadhwani AI will develop a comprehensive AI-for-education blueprint. This plan will focus on creating responsible, India-first AI tools for students, educators, and early career professionals. The goal is to incorporate proven AI solutions into government-owned digital platforms such as SWAYAM, POSHAN Tracker, state learning management systems, and national skilling portals.
AI-Enabled University Initiative
Google Cloud has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). This partnership will establish India's first AI-enabled state university at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) in Meerut. Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for MSDE and MoE, stated that this collaboration aims to bridge the digital divide.
The programme seeks to enhance existing public infrastructure to improve learning outcomes and educational pathways. It also aims to simplify administrative tasks for educators and prepare India's youth for future job opportunities. "By establishing this AI-Enabled University pilot, we are aiming to create a framework that will allow thousands of institutions to independently elevate their standards," said Jayant Chaudhary.
AI Tools for Students and Educators
Google has introduced full-length JEE Main practice tests within its AI assistant, Gemini. These tests are based on vetted content from edtech platforms like PhysicsWallah and Careers360. They provide students with immediate feedback on their performance. Additionally, Google has launched an AI Mode in Search to help students create study guides and interactive quizzes.
New tools for Google Classroom have also been introduced. These tools enable educators to give audio and video feedback and use AI agents to automate workflows. "We are energised by the opportunity to scale this impact," said Preeti Lobana, Google India VP and Country Manager. She emphasised the importance of combining teaching's human connection with research-backed AI principles in learning.
The initiative targets integrating responsible AI solutions into government platforms. By doing so, it aims to enhance learning outcomes and ease administrative tasks for educators. The programme also seeks to prepare India's youth for future employment opportunities by equipping them with necessary skills.
Google's efforts aim to build a future where every learner in India can reach their full potential, regardless of language or location. The integration of AI tools into educational platforms is expected to significantly impact students' learning experiences across the country.
