In a landmark collaboration, tech giant Google and telecom powerhouse Reliance are joining forces to provide its Gemini AI service for free to over 500 million Jio users in India. The move aims to expand AI adoption among Indian users and strengthen the tech giant's presence in the world's second-largest internet market.
Google-Reliance Partnership: Free Gemini Pro Services For Jio Users
The U.S. technology firm revealed on Thursday that it has signed an agreement with Reliance Intelligence, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and Meta, to offer its AI Pro plan to Jio users.

"We announced a strategic partnership with Reliance Intelligence to offer Google's AI Pro plan, and with it the latest version of Google Gemini, to Jio Unlimited 5G plan users at no extra cost for 18 months. This offer will begin rolling out to users between 18 to 25 years of age, and will soon extend to include every eligible Jio user nationwide," stated Google in its blog page.
Gemini 2.5 Pro Packages
The package includes Gemini 2.5 Pro, expanded access to Google's NotebookLM for study and research purposes, and 2 TB of cloud storage, among other features. The total value of these services is estimated at Rs 35,100 per user (approximately $396).
Who is Eligible For Free Jio Gemini Pro Plan?
The rollout of Google's AI Pro plan will be staggered. Initially, early access will be provided to 18- to 25-year-old users on unlimited Jio 5G plans for 18 months. Over time, the service will be extended to the company's entire subscriber base.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet said, "I'm excited for how this partnership will help expand access to AI across India," as per CNBC report.
Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, said that the partnership is part of the company's larger vision to make India "AI-empowered." He emphasized that collaborations with strategic and long-term partners like Google are central to achieving this goal. Reliance Jio is India's largest telecom operator, serving hundreds of millions of subscribers across the country, according to CNBC.
Global AI companies have increasingly turned to India's telecom operators to expand their reach. In July, Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, partnered with Perplexity to offer 360 million customers free access to Perplexity Pro, a service valued at $200 annually. Airtel also ran influencer-led campaigns on social media to promote the AI tool's use-cases among Indian users.
