Government Launches Rs 1,435 Crore PAN 2.0 Project to Enhance Digital Taxpayer Services

The government has unveiled the PAN 2.0 Project, allocating Rs 1,435 crore to establish the permanent account number as a universal business identifier for all digital systems within government agencies. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved this initiative, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The PAN 2.0 Project aims to transform taxpayer registration services through technology, enhancing access and service speed while improving quality. Technology-Driven Transformation

This e-Governance project focuses on re-engineering taxpayer registration services by transforming PAN/TAN services through technology. The goal is to enhance the digital experience for taxpayers. The project will upgrade the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 system by consolidating core and non-core activities and improving the PAN validation service.

Currently, approximately 78 crore PANs have been issued, with individuals holding 98 per cent of them. The new project aims to streamline processes and ensure a seamless experience for users. By integrating various functions under one umbrella, it seeks to provide a single source of truth and improve data consistency.
