The DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has asked trade associations to provide a detailed list of purchases from China so that the government can identify imports that are non-essential and substitute those with local products, an Economic Times report said citing unnamed officials.

The report further said that the list of Chinese items imported, including toys, pharmaceuticals, plastic, furniture, etc needs to be provided to the DPIIT, that comes under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, by 22 June.
In the wake of the border conflict between the two countries, the Indian government is taking measures to reduce dependence on China. Earlier this week news reports said that the Department of Telecom has asked state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) to exclude Chinese gearmakers from supplying 4G telecom equipment.
The country's policy think-tank Niti Aayog has now advised BSNL to go for an indigenously designed, developed and manufactured (IDDM) solution for its 4G network.
