The deadline for central government pensioners to submit a life certificate has been extended by the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW). The deadline for government pensioners to submit their annual life certificate, or Jeevan Pramaan Patra, has been extended till December 31, according to the department's official announcement. Every year in November, every central government pensioner is required to submit a life certificate in order to keep their pension active. However, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, an extension has been granted until December to provide Central Government pensioners additional time to submit their life certificate online or in person at a bank.

In a circular released on 1st December 2021, DoPPW has said that "In view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in various states and keeping in view of the vulnerability of elderly population to Corona Virus, it has now been decided to extend the existing timeline for submission of life certificate for all age group of pensioners from 30/11/2021 onwards. Now, all Central Government pensioners may submit a life certificate till 31st December 2021. During this extended period, the pension will continue to be paid by the Pension Disbursing Authorities (PDA) uninterrupted."
The department has also stated in the memorandum that "The above measures are expected to avoid rush at branches and maintain covid-19 appropriate behaviour, while obtaining Life Certificates. PDAs shall also ensure proper arrangements and social distancing measures at the branches and prevent overcrowding."
The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) had released a circular on 20th September 2021 on which it said that "The different modes available to a pensioner for submission of Annual Life Certificate are once again summarized for Pensioners' awareness. An Annual Life Certificate can be submitted manually or digitally as per the convenience of the pensioner."
According to the department, pensioners can submit a Life Certificate online from home through Jeevan Pramaan Portal. The process of submission of a Digital Life Certificate through "Jeevan Pramaan" may be seen at https://youtu.be/nNMlkTYqTF8. UIDAI has provided details of all biometric devices which are permissible for capturing biometrics of a person. Pensioners may visit the site www.uidai.gov.in to get information of all such devices.
Pensioners can also submit their life certificates through Doorstep Service for submission of Digital Life Certificates through Postman. For leveraging this facility through mobile, a pensioner has to download "Postinfo APP" from the Google Play store.
