Government Launches Industry Consultation to Promote PM E-DRIVE and Electric Truck Adoption

The Heavy Industries Ministry has initiated discussions with stakeholders regarding the Rs 500 crore subsidy under the PM E-drive scheme. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric trucks in India. During the initial meeting, officials emphasised the collaboration needed among truck manufacturers, buyers, and banks for a seamless transition to e-trucks.

Consultation on PM E-DRIVE for E-Trucks Begins

Representatives from various sectors attended the meeting, including those from the Indian Ports Association, Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, and Mahindra Trucks. Industry associations like SIAM and ICCT were also present. The gathering marked a significant step towards promoting electric trucks in India.

Focus on Sustainable Mobility

Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Heavy Industries Ministry, noted that this meeting is a pioneering government effort focused on e-trucks. He mentioned that India is one of only a few countries globally producing e-trucks. Rizvi stressed that achieving India's net-zero target by 2070 requires cooperation among manufacturers, buyers, and financial institutions.

Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary in the ministry, highlighted the role of incentives in promoting e-trucks. He pointed out that heavy transport contributes to 18% of pollution, making electric trucks vital for cleaner transportation. The meeting aimed to engage with OEMs and auto component manufacturers to enhance the e-truck supply chain.

Exploring Demand and Solutions

Officials discussed exploring demand for electric trucks through consultations with shippers, logistics providers, and industry leaders. The focus was on sustainable transport solutions for a cleaner future. The PM E-DRIVE scheme is expected to encourage the deployment of e-trucks across the country.

The discussions also aimed at strengthening the ecosystem for e-trucks and advancing sustainable mobility. By engaging with various stakeholders, the ministry seeks to drive forward initiatives that support cleaner transport networks.

This initiative represents a crucial step towards reducing pollution from heavy transport and aligning with India's environmental goals. The collaboration between different sectors is essential for achieving these objectives efficiently.
