The Government of India has invited applications for the recruitment of Judicial Members and Technical Members in the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). Interested candidates can apply online before the deadline of March 31, 2023.
The Indian government has invited applications for appointment to the posts of judicial members and technical members in the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). The GSTAT is a quasi-judicial body that hears appeals against orders passed by the GST authorities. There are 63 vacancies for the post of judicial members and 32 vacant positions for technical member Centre and 1 for technical member state.

Key Details about the Posts
The GSTAT will have one principal bench at Delhi and 31 state benches at various locations across the country. The Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance has invited applications for appointment to the posts of the Judicial Members, Technical Members Centre, and Technical Member State in the Principal bench and States benches of GSTAT.
The minimum age to apply is 50 years as on the last date of application. The pay for these positions is fixed at Rs 2.25 lakh per month. All other allowances and terms and conditions of service, including DA, medical, etc., shall be the same as applicable to central government officers carrying the same pay.
Application Process and Timeline
The last date for submitting applications is March 31, 2023. The government will appoint the members based on the recommendations of a search-cum-selection committee. Shortlisted candidates may be called for personal interaction by the committee if deemed necessary. The committee will recommend a panel of suitable candidates to the government for making the appointments.
Age Limit for GSTAT President and Members
In December 2022, the Lok Sabha passed a bill to raise the age limit of the president and members of the GSTAT. The bill seeks to cap the age for the president and members of GSTAT at 70 years and 67 years, respectively.
Eligibility Criteria for Judicial Members
To be eligible for appointment as a judicial member of GSTAT, an advocate must have 10 years of substantial experience in litigation in matters relating to indirect taxes in the Appellate Tribunal.
