Hamas has expressed its willingness to release Israeli hostages as part of a peace proposal by President Trump, aiming for mediated discussions. The United Nations supports this move, highlighting the importance of seizing the opportunity to end the conflict.
Hamas has announced its willingness to release all Israeli hostages, both living and deceased, as part of a proposal by US President Donald Trump concerning Gaza. The group expressed readiness to engage in mediated discussions to finalise the terms, according to Reuters. This announcement follows Trump's ultimatum to Hamas, demanding a peace agreement with Israel by Sunday 6 pm Washington DC time or face severe consequences.
Trump emphasised the urgency of reaching an agreement with Hamas by the specified deadline. He warned that failing to do so would result in unprecedented repercussions for Hamas. "An Agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) P.M., Washington, D.C. time. Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas," Trump stated on Truth Social.

UN's Reaction and Call for Peace
The United Nations welcomed Hamas's announcement and expressed optimism about their willingness to release hostages and engage in talks. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated, "The Secretary-General welcomes and is encouraged by the statement issued by Hamas announcing its readiness to release hostages and to engage." He urged all parties involved to seize this opportunity to end the ongoing conflict and protect civilians.
On October 7, 2023, a surprise attack was launched by Hamas against Israel during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. This marked a significant escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The assault involved over 4,000 rockets and coordinated attacks by land, air, and sea.
Details of Trump's Peace Plan
Trump highlighted his 20-point Gaza peace plan as a historic breakthrough agreed upon by Israel, the US, and regional powers. He described it as an end to centuries of bloodshed in the region. "Great, powerful, and very rich Nations of the Middle East... have agreed... with Israel signing on... after 3000 years... THIS DEAL ALSO SPARES THE LIVES OF ALL REMAINING HAMAS FIGHTERS!" Trump declared.
The attack on October 7 resulted in significant casualties and destruction. At least 1,195 people were killed, including 736 Israeli civilians, 79 foreign nationals, and 379 security personnel. Approximately 250 individuals were taken hostage to Gaza. The assault caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.
Trump also urged Palestinians in conflict-hit areas of Gaza to relocate for safety amid continuous Israeli bombardment since the attacks began. He assured that those who move would be well cared for by waiting helpers. "I am asking that all innocent Palestinians immediately leave this area of potentially great future death for safer parts of Gaza," he said.
