Himachal Pradesh Government Plans to Boost Hydropower Tourism for Local Employment Opportunities

Himachal Pradesh is exploring hydropower tourism to boost local employment, according to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The state plans to develop a policy and provide training for power project developers through the Department of Energy. This initiative aims to create self-employment and job opportunities for the youth in the region.

The Chief Minister emphasised the state's commitment to expanding green energy. He urged officials to accelerate ongoing power projects, highlighting the need to re-advertise non-responsive hydro projects. This step aims to maximise the state's hydropower potential. Sukhu also instructed the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) to start construction on the Devi Kothi and Hail Power Projects without delay.

Green Energy Initiatives

A Mega Watt Green Hydrogen Project is underway at Nalagarh in Solan district. Additionally, a 32 MW Solar Power Project was completed in Pekhubela, Una district, within six months. Two more solar projects are under construction in Una and are expected to be operational soon. These projects reflect the state's dedication to renewable energy sources.

Sukhu reviewed several high-stake legal cases involving JSW, Shanan, and pending arrears with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). He directed officials to actively pursue these cases in court. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of expediting pump storage projects as part of the state's energy strategy.

The state government is working diligently to harness more green energy. By promoting hydropower tourism and advancing renewable energy projects, Himachal Pradesh aims to create sustainable job opportunities while tapping into its natural resources effectively.
