This Sunday is more than just a normal day of rest. The Hindu New Year, Vikram Samvat 2082 has begun on March 30 from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. It is also celebrated as Nav Samvatsar, Gudi Padwa, Yugadi, Poila Baisakh, and Cheti Chand in different regions of India. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day. Also, Chaitra Navratri begins on this day, which is a significant festival of nine days.
Why Do Hindus Celebrate New Year on First Day of Chaitra?
According to the Hindu mythology, before the creation of the universe, all the planets were aligned in a straight line, which initiated the flow of cosmic energy. This alignment marks the beginning of a new cosmic cycle, and thus, it is celebrated as the start of the new year. This day also marks the coronation of Lord Shri Ram and Dharmaraj Yudhishthira.

Religious Belief Behind Hindu New Year
This day holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma because it is believed that lord Brahma created the universe on this day. According to the Brahma Purana, Param Brahma took a physical form on this day and created the three main deities of Hindus, lord Brahma, lord Vishnu, and lord Mahesh.
Hindu Nav Varsh: Lunisolar Calendar
Vikram Samvat is a lunisolar calendar that is followed in Hinduism in the Indian subcontinent and Nepal. The calendar is based on Vikram Samvat, which was established by Emperor Vikramaditya in 57 BCE. That is why it is also known as the Vikrami calendar. It is calculated on the basis of the movement of the Sun and the Moon, which ensures its accuracy. All major Hindu festivals such as Navratri, Ramnavami, Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, and Holi have dates determined according to Vikram Samvat.
Significance of Vikram Samvat:
The Hindu calendar is 57 years ahead of the Georgian or English calendar which is calculated on the lunisolar principle. Vikram Samvat begins on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This Samvatsara has 12 months, which include Chaitra, Vaishakh, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin, Kartik, Margashirsha, Paush, Magh and Phalguna.
Vikram Samvat 2082 or Hindu Calendra 2025:
The Hindu calendar has a cycle of 60 years, with each year having a specific name and impact. According to astrologers, Vikram Samvat 2082 will be named 'Siddhartha' and the vehicle of this year will be a horse. In this Samvatsar, both the positions of king and minister will be ruled by the Sun, due to which extreme heat is expected. Due to the prominence of the Sun, natural disasters, fire, and extreme temperature conditions can be seen this year. However, agricultural production will be good, due to which the economic situation will remain balanced.
According to astrological calculations, in this Samvat, the conjunction of the planets Sun, Moon, Saturn, Mercury, Venus, and Rahu is going to take place. Apart from this, Budhaditya and Rajyoga are also being formed, which will have a positive effect on the people of the zodiac. Due to many rare coincidences, the luck of the people of Capricorn and Gemini zodiac can shine and auspicious results will be obtained.
