Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the fair and evidence-based approach to restoring Hindu places of worship, highlighting the ongoing construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the recent Pran Pratishtha ceremony. She stressed the importance of storytelling and documentation in preserving cultural heritage, citing the example of the Gyanvapi Mosque debate.
On Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the restoration of Hindu places of worship, emphasizing that these efforts are carried out with fairness and backed by substantial evidence. She dismissed the notion that these actions are driven by emotional manipulation.

Ayodhya Ram Temple Construction
The construction of the three-storeyed Ram temple in Ayodhya is currently underway, following the Supreme Court's verdict in 2019 that favored the construction of the temple. In January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Lalla idol in accordance with prescribed rituals.
Importance of Storytelling and Documentation
Sitharaman stressed the significance of proper storytelling and documentation in highlighting the civilizational attempt to restore temples with fairness. She emphasized that the government is not attempting to evoke emotions but rather presenting concrete evidence in legal proceedings.
Release of Book on Kashi Gyan Vapi
During the release of a book titled "Waiting for Shiva Unearthing the Truth of Kashi Gyan Vapi" written by Vikram Sampath, Sitharaman highlighted the inherent tradition of documentation in the Hindu way of life. She noted that documentation was prevalent until the 11th century and was even mentioned by Chinese and Persian scholars who visited India in the past.
Documentation and Historical Turbulence
However, Sitharaman acknowledged that the tradition of documentation suffered later on. She pointed out that documentation suggests repeated turbulence in Kashi for over 800 years. She also mentioned the well-researched books written by Sita Ram Goel on the Kashi temple and Meenakshi Jain on the Mathura temple.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's defense of the restoration of Hindu places of worship underscores the importance of fairness, evidence-based decision-making, and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. By emphasizing the significance of documentation and storytelling, she highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of the historical context surrounding these religious sites.
