Holashtak 2026 Puja Vidhi, Rituals, Charity and Holika Dahan Preparation

Spiritual activities gain special importance during Holashtak. Devotees increase their focus on worship and self-restraint rather than celebrations. Many families begin preparations for Holika Dahan, symbolising the victory of good over evil.

Charity during this period is considered especially rewarding. Helping the poor, feeding the needy and offering donations are believed to bring spiritual merit and peace.

Mythological Significance of Holashtak

The roots of Holashtak are deeply connected to the story of Bhakt Prahlad and Holika. According to religious texts, demon king Hiranyakashyap attempted several times to stop his son Prahlad's devotion to Lord Vishnu. Finally, Holika-who had a boon to remain unharmed by fire-sat with Prahlad in blazing flames.

It is believed that Lord Vishnu protected Prahlad, while Holika was burned to ashes, marking the triumph of faith over arrogance. This event is commemorated as Holika Dahan, and the days leading up to it are treated with caution, devotion and restraint.
