Holi holidays in schools could turn into a four-day break, but there is still no official confirmation. Students, parents, and teachers are waiting for clarity on whether March 3 will also be declared a holiday. In Uttar Pradesh, March 1 (Sunday), March 2 (Holika Dahan), and March 4 (Holi) are already confirmed as holidays.
However, March 3 is currently listed as a working day in the academic calendar. If the government announces a holiday on that day as well, schools will remain closed continuously from March 1 to March 4.

School Holi Holiday 2026: Will Schools Remain Closed for Four Consecutive Days?
According to the annual academic calendar issued by the state education department, March 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday and is a regular weekly holiday. March 2 has been declared a holiday on account of Holika Dahan, while March 4 will remain closed for the celebration of Holi (festival of colours).
However, March 3 (Tuesday) is officially marked as a normal working day. If the government issues a fresh notification declaring this day a holiday, students could benefit from a continuous four-day break from March 1 to March 4.
Is March 3, 2026 Holiday For Holi?
The main concern revolves around whether it makes practical sense to keep schools open for just one day between two major festival holidays. Teachers' associations have reportedly argued that most of the syllabus is completed by the end of February, meaning academic impact would be minimal even if March 3 is declared a holiday.
Additionally, in many regions, Holi celebrations extend beyond a single day. Attendance may remain low if schools reopen immediately after Holika Dahan and just before the main Holi celebration.
Teachers who travel to their hometowns for the festival may also face logistical challenges returning for a single working day.
Holi Holiday Calendar 2026: Confirmed and Tentative Dates
As per the academic calendar, the holiday schedule for early March 2026 is as follows:
March 1, 2026 (Sunday) - Weekly Holiday
March 2, 2026 (Monday) - Holika Dahan
March 3, 2026 (Tuesday) - Working Day (Holiday Status Unclear)
March 4, 2026 (Wednesday) - Holi
Public Holidays List in March 2026
Apart from Holi, several other major religious holidays are scheduled in March 2026:
March 21 - Eid-ul-Fitr
March 26 - Ram Navami
March 31 - Mahavir Jayanti
These dates are already confirmed in the academic calendar and are not subject to change.
There have also been discussions regarding variations in Holika Dahan timings based on different Panchang calculations. Such differences sometimes create confusion about exact holiday dates. However, official school holidays are determined solely by the state education department's notification.
