Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan has instructed HPGIC to invest profits in upgrading its manufacturing plants. This initiative aims to modernise furniture production and support local community projects.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan has instructed the Himachal Pradesh General Industries Corporation (HPGIC) to invest its profits in upgrading and modernising its manufacturing facilities. This directive was given during the 236th board meeting of HPGIC. The board has sanctioned a tender for acquiring new machinery to update the corporation's furniture factories, aiming to cater to the increasing demand for contemporary and modular furniture from both public and private sectors within the state.

The corporation has managed to secure a profit of Rs 13.37 crore, despite facing significant competition from private entities and operating with limited manpower, according to an official statement. The board also approved the draft balance sheet for the financial year 2024-25 during this meeting.
Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
In addition to these developments, the board endorsed decisions made by the corporation's CSR committee. A sum of Rs 1.38 crore has been allocated to the office of the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, for purchasing 12 vehicles. These vehicles will support the state's Anti-Chitta Campaign, which aims to combat drug abuse.
Furthermore, a contribution of Rs 17.65 lakhs under Corporate Social Responsibility has been sanctioned for constructing a new building for the Government Primary School in Suniyadi, located in Shillai, district Sirmaur. These initiatives reflect HPGIC's commitment to social responsibility and community development.
The board's approval of these measures indicates a strategic focus on both modernisation and social responsibility. By investing in new machinery and supporting community projects, HPGIC aims to enhance its operational capabilities while contributing positively to society.
