Hyundai Motor India has transported 1,56,724 units via rail freight in 2024. This accounts for 26% of its domestic wholesale volume from the previous year. The company announced this achievement on Friday. By using rail transport, Hyundai reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 18,352 tonnes in 2024.

The company has also achieved full dispatch of vehicles to the North-East region through rail freight in 2024. "At HMIL, we have been relentless in our pursuit of promoting sustainability in all facets of our operations, be it manufacturing, dispatches, sales or after sales support," stated Tarun Garg, Hyundai Motor India Ltd's Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Environmental Impact and Rail Freight
Hyundai has effectively utilised the Indian Railways network to deliver vehicles from its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai to various locations across India. This initiative has significantly contributed to reducing carbon emissions. "By utilising Indian Railways extensive rail network for delivering Hyundai vehicles from our plant in Sriperumbudur, Chennai to multiple locations across India, we have effectively prevented 18,352 tonne of carbon-di-oxide emissions in CY2024," added Tarun Garg.
Between 2021 and 2024, Hyundai dispatched a total of 5,37,499 units using rail freight. This effort prevented the emission of 63,452 tonnes of carbon dioxide during this period. The company's commitment to sustainability is evident through these actions.
Government Support and Future Plans
The Indian government is enhancing rail infrastructure with dedicated freight corridors and modern rolling stock. These improvements ensure faster movement of goods across the country. Hyundai Motor India plans to continue leveraging these advancements to optimise logistics operations.
Hyundai's ongoing use of rail freight aligns with its long-term goal of reducing emissions. The company remains dedicated to sustainable practices across all aspects of its business operations. This approach not only benefits the environment but also supports efficient logistics management.
Hyundai's efforts reflect a broader commitment to sustainability within the automotive industry. By prioritising eco-friendly transportation methods, the company sets an example for others to follow.
