Instagram has blocked the accounts of several Pakistani celebrities, including Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan, making them inaccessible to users in India. The platform displays the message, "Account not available in India ... .We complied with a legal request to restrict this content." Indian authorities made this legal request amid heightened tensions following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.

Indian authorities have also blocked the Instagram accounts of other Pakistani figures such as Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, Momina Mustehsan, Iqra Aziz, Imran Abbas, and Sajal Aly. These actions are part of a broader crackdown after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, aiming to curb the spread of misinformation and sensitive narratives that could provoke communal unrest.

India Blocks Pakistani Celebs Instagram: Hania Aamir Appeals to Indian Government
In reaction to her account being restricted, actress Hania Aamir shared a message on her Instagram story: "I respectfully request the Prime Minister of India: we, the common people of Pakistan, have done nothing wrong to India. It is the Pakistani army and Islamist terrorists who are behind the Pahalgam terrorist attack...Please take action against the Pakistani army and the terrorists, not the innocent citizens."
The Indian government also banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including prominent outlets like Dawn News and ARY News, citing their dissemination of provocative and misleading content against India. This move followed the Pahalgam attack, which targeted around 26 people near the Baisaran grassland. Heavily armed terrorists ambushed the group, killing 25 Hindu tourists and one local guide.
Investigators identified three Pakistani nationals linked to the attack using digital evidence. In response, the Indian government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, shut down the Attari land border crossing, and downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy organization linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam assault. The attack occurred during a visit by U.S. Vice President JD Vance to India, further intensifying diplomatic sensitivity between the two nations.
