The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has praised the government's recent approval of two schemes totalling Rs 14,335 crore to promote electric vehicles. SIAM President Shailesh Chandra described the initiative as a significant step towards sustainable mobility.

Government's Commitment to Electric Mobility
The Union Cabinet has sanctioned two schemes: PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) with a budget of Rs 10,900 crore over two years, and PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) with an allocation of Rs 3,435 crore. These initiatives aim to make clean and green transportation more accessible across India.
Chandra emphasised that this move will accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) nationwide. "It will undoubtedly help accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles EVs across the country, making clean and green transportation more accessible to all," he stated.
Industry's Role in Sustainable Mobility
JBM Auto Ltd Vice Chairman & Managing Director Nishant Arya echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the policy's potential to position India as a leader in sustainable mobility. "It is a momentous announcement towards making India the EV capital of the world and the auto sector playing a pivotal role in realising India's net-zero 2070 targets," Arya said.

Collaborative Efforts for a Greener Future
The automotive industry is prepared to work closely with the government to advance EV technology and infrastructure. "The automotive industry stands ready to continue working collaboratively with the government to ensure advancements in EV technology and infrastructure, aligning our efforts with the nation's ambitious goals for a cleaner, greener future," Chandra remarked.
Chandra believes that these schemes will not only boost the growth of the EV ecosystem but also enhance India's leadership in global environmental sustainability efforts. "We believe this scheme will not only enhance the growth of the EV ecosystem but also strengthen India's leadership in the global movement towards environmental sustainability," he said.
